Great Days Out
High Laning provides an excellent base for some great days out, whether exploring markets towns like Sedbergh and Kirkby Lonsdale, the spectacular views and villages of the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District, or everything between cityscape and countryside along the Settle-Carlisle Railway.
Sedbergh Book Town
Nestling under the rounded hills of the Howgills and 5 miles west of Dent lies the market town of Sedbergh. Built up around the local wool trade and the school founded in 1525, Sedbergh is now England's official book town. Based around eight dedicated bookshops, including Westwood's, which houses around 70,000 titles, and the Tourist Information and Book Centre.

Farfield Mill
On the outskirts of Sedbergh lies Farfield mill, a restored Victorian woollen mill that is one of the leading venues for textile arts in the north west. Set over four floors, there are heritage displays, working looms and regularly changing exhibitions. There are arts and crafts for sale by resident and visiting artists, alongside workshops and events, and also refreshments at the Weaver's Cafe.

Farfield Clothing
Located on Joss Lane in Sedbergh, Farfield Cothing have been designing and producing a unique collection of outdoor wear for adults and children, made from fleece specially manufactured in Yorkshire, since 1985. Their factory shop is open to the public Monday to Saturday – 10am to 5pm.

Kirkby Lonsdale
The bustling, historic market town of Kirkby Lonsdale with it's impressive market square and period buildings, houses a contempary mix of independant shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. Local landmarks include Devil's Bridge dating from around the 1370s and Ruskin's View – being the view from the churchyard across the River Lune and captured on canvas by landscape painter JMW Turner.
